Species360 follows International Union for Conservation of Nature ( IUCN ) standards as much as possible for its taxonomy.  When IUCN does not list a taxon, we are presently using the following standards.

Please note that Species360 does not update taxonomy standards frequently. We treat taxonomic updates conservatively, preferring to wait until changes are generally accepted in the literature. Frequent taxonomic changes - and often revision back to a former name - would otherwise be a major logistical challenge.

In ZIMS, you may create locally used synonyms for both common and Latin names.  That way, your reports will show the common or Latin names your institution prefers.
