Global Taxonomic Changes
Managing the Pending Taxonomic Changes that are created when a Taxonomy for a species is changed at the Global level.
Contact Species360 Support
If you are holding a species that has undergone a global taxonomic change event, ZIMS will display them to you in a ‘Pending Taxonomic Change’ hyperlink in the Animal statistics area in the Animals Module. You will also be notified by Post Office message (one message per taxonomic change occurrence).
In this Pending Taxonomic Change model, your options are to:
- View the taxonomic changes that impact your inventory by viewing a list of effected individuals/groups in ZIMS by selecting the hyperlink.
- Agree to the new global taxonomic determination by checking the box to the left of the Former Scientific Name and selecting the Accept Species360 Taxonomy button. A taxonomic change event will then be added to all of your animals of this taxonomy changing them to the new taxonomic name. The Animal ID count column number displays the number of records affected and selecting it will bring up a results list for you to view the records before accepting.
- Disagree with the new global taxonomic determination by archiving the notice of changes. Check the box to the left of the Former Scientific Name and select the Archive button. You will retain your current taxonomic determination (now an obsolete value in the taxonomic tree in ZIMS).
- If you wish to accept the change to some of the records and not all, open the Animal ID Count hyperlink. Check the records you want to change and select Actions for selected animals. Taxonomy change is available as a Batch Action.
- Review rejected (archived) changes for acceptance later by checking the Include Archived Records checkbox in the upper right.
- View accepted changes for review later by checking the Include Accepted Records checkbox in the upper right.
-
Auto-Accept new changes. Under
Institutional Preferences
in ZIMS you can decide if your organization will automatically accept new global taxonomic changes by default. If you enable this feature, you will still be notified by Post Office message when changes occur that impact your collection, additionally, you can review these auto-accepted changes in the Pending Taxonomic Changes tab.
- You can view the change history of any taxonomy by going to that taxonomy’s detail page in the Taxonomy module. For your convenience, the taxonomies are now hyperlinked in the Taxonomy / Sex Type / Collection box on Animal Details tab.
Best Practices:
For actual taxonomic changes that occur in your records that might not be reflected in these global taxonomic change events, such as correcting an incorrectly entered taxonomy or changing a taxonomy that you don’t agree with, please refer to the
Taxonomy Change Event
functionality in ZIMS.
