When you merge two enclosures for data quality reasons it is because there are duplicate or incorrect entries in your enclosure tree. You will choose to retain one of the enclosures and make the other enclosure “disappear”. You merge enclosure A with enclosure B, select to retain enclosure A and enclosure B will disappear, or retain enclosure B and enclosure A will disappear. In this example Yard1 and Yard01 are actually the same exhibit and one was just entered incorrectly. Yard 01 is the enclosure that you want to keep.
From within the Enclosure module select the Merge Enclosures tab and Merge Enclosures (cleanup errors)
First and Second Enclosure – It does not matter what order you enter the enclosures.
Merged Into - Since Yard01 is the correct enclosure that is what you would record here. Merged Into is the enclosure that you want to keep.
Merge Reason – The reason is either Duplicate Entry or Incorrect Entry
All of the current or historical enclosure records for animals in Yard1 will be replaced with Yard01 so any current or historical occupants that have ever resided in that disappearing enclosure will have their records transferred to the surviving enclosure. An automatic note is also placed into the animal’s enclosure record. All occupants of Yard1 will be displayed in the Enclosure Occupants for Yard01 as appropriate.
You can search for enclosure merged to cleanup errors using the Enclosure search box for Cleanup Error Search. Leaving all fields blank will return all enclosures that have been merged for data quality. Using the Merged Enclosure field you can find the enclosures that disappeared and what enclosure they were moved into.
