Enclosure Merge (actual physical merge)

An Enclosure Merge (actual physical merge) would be used if you combined two enclosures into one. Examples would be if you removed a fence between two small yards to create a large yard, or removed a solid divider between two aquatic tanks to make a larger tank. If you want to merge two enclosures because they are duplicates or one is incorrect you should use the Enclosure Merge (cleanup errors). You cannot merge enclosures that have sub-enclosures, or Child enclosures, under them.  You are allowed to merge an Aquatic enclosure with a Terrestrial enclosure.

When you actually physically merge two enclosures you create a new enclosure. You merge enclosure A with enclosure B to create enclosure C.

In the Enclosure module under the Merge Enclosures tab, select Merge Enclosures (actual physical merge):

First Enclosure/Second Enclosure – These are the two enclosures you are merging. It does not matter which enclosure you record as first or second.

New Parent Enclosure – This will determine the new enclosure’s location within the Enclosure Tree.

New Category/Type – These may or may not be the same as the merged enclosures.

New Enclosure Name – You must select a new name, it cannot be one of the merged enclosures.

Merge Reason – Select from the data standard.

Both of the original enclosures, in this case A and B, are marked as Inactive and you can no longer put animals into them. The previous enclosure records for any animals that had been in A or B will remain the same but there will be a Move Out Date. As of the date of the enclosure merge the enclosure occupant’s records will reflect that they are now in enclosure C.  As of the date of the merge all occupants of both A and B are moved into C in the animal record. An automatic note is placed in the animal enclosure move record as to why the move was made.

You can search for Enclosure Merge (actual physical merge) using the Enclosure Search box. Leaving all fields blank will find all merges of this type, or you can filter by several topics. This is how you would find what enclosure a merged/original enclosure had been merged into.
