To save you time you can create an Aquarist Daily Log to help you record all the environmental and water quality measurements, water changes, enclosure feedings and more that you need to do all day from one screen. Although developed for aquatic enclosures, it is equally valuable for terrestrial enclosures.

Creating the Aquarist Daily Log

To create a template for this log, go to Start > Tools > Manage Templates (below left). Or, you can access it from the Enclosure, Life Support or Component modules Batch Measurements tab (below right).

 

 

Create a unique name and select what Enclosures, Life Supports or Components that you will be gathering data on during your day. If you want others to be able to use this template check the Share This Template box. Checking that will activate the Editable by Others box that you can check if you want other staff members to be able to edit the template.

You will then select the Data Fields you want included in the template. Commonly selected fields are Water Changes, Feed Logs, Measurements, Maintenance, and Notes & Observations. Any data fields that are specific to an entity will be noted in red. Here Feed Log and Barrier Voltage can be applied only to Enclosures.

 

For any measurements you will need to select your default Units of Measure.

 

Using the Move Down and Move Up arrows in both Entities and Data Fields you can arrange the sequence as desired so that the template works for you as you move from tank to tank.

 

When done, Save the Template and it will appear in your ADL Template list. You can Edit, Remove or Create a Desktop Shortcut for the Template from the Actions menu.

 

Using the Aquarist Daily Log

To use the Aquarist Daily Log, open the Manage Templates from Start > Tools or select Batch Measurements tab. Highlight ADL and your templates will display. To use the template select the template name hyperlink.

 

Any Data Fields that are not appropriate for an Entity will be greyed out and not editable.

Record your measurements or actions as appropriate. Use the TAB key on your keyboard to move across to the next data entry box. To make it easier when you TAB, ZIMS now automatically skips the ‘default unit of measure’ box and jumps straight to the next measurement box.

 

If you are done then click ‘Save’. But, if you have more to add to the template as you go about your day, the template auto saves every 60 seconds. You can save it as a Draft by selecting Cancel instead of Save. You will be asked if you want to save your work as a Draft.

 

Drafts can be found under Draft Records at the bottom of the Template list.

 

Open the draft you want to complete from the hyperlink. Select Save when you are done with your data entry.
