INCOMPLETE DISPOSITIONS

 

How an Incomplete Disposition is created and completed.

An Incomplete Disposition is created in the Husbandry module when a Necropsy record is submitted in the Medical module before a Death is recorded in the Husbandry module.

 

Incomplete Dispositions are found in the Animal Statistics tab in the Animals module. The number of Incomplete Dispositions is indicted by the number to the right. Unlike Incomplete Accessions they are not divided up by time frame.

 

Selecting the Incomplete Disposition hyperlink will open a results list for any Death records that need to be completed in the Husbandry module. We will look at the record for the Black-and-white ruffed lemur where your Vet has submitted a necropsy but you have not yet recorded a Death.

 

Selecting the GAN hyperlink will open the record directly in to the My Transactions grid where you will see a pending transaction for a Death.

 

Selecting the wheel icon gives you four options:

• Confirm/Edit – You agree the death occurred as recorded with possible minor edits. Hopefully this is what you will select
• Deny – You do not agree with the Death record as entered. Maybe you feel the medical team recorded the death on the incorrect animal. But you should try to straighten this out before having to Deny. If they agree it was the wrong animal, they can delete the Necropsy submission and the Incomplete Disposition will be removed from the list.
• No Information Available – This is not really a viable option except possibly for historical cases. But since the Necropsy originated at your institution you should have some sort of information.
• Not Recorded in ZIMS – This is not a viable option as the Necropsy was recorded in ZIMS so the animal had a record in ZIMS

 

You select Confirm/Edit.

1.The Date recorded in the Necropsy record will prefill but can be edited.

2.The Manner of Death recorded in the Necropsy record will prefill but can be edited.

3, 4 and 5. If the Necropsy had been finalized, all three of these fields would also prefill with what was entered in the Finalize tab of the Necropsy record. If the Necropsy has not yet been finalized, what you enter in these fields in the Death record will prefill in the medical record. These three fields will be updated in both Medical and Husbandry with the most recently updated data in either module. They are not required fields in either module.

 

As noted, Manner of Death, Relevant Death Information, Primary Body System Affected and Carcass Disposition are shared data between Husbandry and Medical. It is usually Best Practices to have your medical team make the final decision for what is recorded in these fields.

 

Complete the desired fields, Confirm Transaction and Save All Changes. The Death is accepted and the record is removed from the Incomplete Disposition List in Animal Statistics.

 

A Note for animals on loan:

Simple submission of a Necropsy for animals on loan will not create an Incomplete Accession for the owning institution. It will create one for the holding institution that submitted the Necropsy. When the Death is confirmed in the Husbandry record of the holding institution, the owning institution will receive a Pending transaction.
