• What is LearnZIMS?

LearnZIMS is a copy of functionality from Live ZIMS that is used as an on-call training tool. LearnZIMS is used by Species360 members to teach themselves or their internal staff on ZIMS functionality, including Husbandry, Medical, and Studbooks.

 

LearnZIMS can be used for studbook practice by current or prospective ZIMS for Studbooks users to test functionality and practice on a sample studbook database, to avoid altering a Live ZIMS studbook.

 

• Who has access to LearnZIMS?

Any Species360 member or non-member that has Live ZIMS credentials has access to LearnZIMS. Users must be logged into Live ZIMS in order to access the LearnZIMS tool.

• How do I access LearnZIMS to practice with studbooks?

There are two ways a user can access LearnZIMS.

Method one:

1. First log into Live ZIMS .
2. Next open this link: http://training.species360.org/ZIMSStudbooks/

On this page, the generic username/password credentials for the LearnZIMS tool are presented, as shown here.

 

3. Click the ZIMS logo on the page (displayed below) to open the LearnZIMS site, and login with the provided credentials.

              

4. You should see the screen below. Please enter your information into the pop-up window and submit to begin practicing.

 

 

Method two:

1. First log into Live ZIMS .
2. In the help menu, click on the ‘Practice with LearnZIMS’ option.  Select ‘Practice with Studbooks in LearnZIMS’.
3. This will bring up the page where the generic username/password credentials for the LearnZIMS tool are presented – see Method one, step 2 above.
4. Proceed as in Method one.

 

• Where do the data in LearnZIMS come from?

LearnZIMS includes sample data only. No live studbooks are present in the studbook part of LearnZIMS.

 

• What functionality is available in LearnZIMS?

All Husbandry, Medical, and Studbook features are available in LearnZIMS.

 

• Can I add a specific studbook to LearnZIMS for Studbooks?

Species360 does not have plans to load any additional studbooks into LearnZIMS. The intended use of the shared training studbook is to act as a multipurpose tool for all users to familiarize themselves with ZIMS for Studbooks. The purpose is to learn the tool set without focus on any conventions related to a specific species.
